UPCYCLEPOP ECO HOLIDAY MARKET EVENT

UpcyclePop Eco Holiday Market is a one-day creative place to play, explore and shop sustainably for the holidays. An interactive market for upcycled and repurposed items along with live artist demos, music, eco-fashion show, and surprise performances. This year’s gallery exhibit is  Carts for the Arts, which is highlighting the disposable vape cartridge waste issue.

Knowing it is impossible to indefinitely run a linear system on a finite planet, Upcyclepop introduces circular economy principles into a fun engaging experience. Remake, play, shop, eat and get creative.

We practice sustainability and strive to make this a zero-waste event. Please …no single-use plastics. Bring your own mug, wine glass or useable cup to fill up on kombucha, wine, mimosas or beer. All going to a good cause – a nonprofit dedicated to creating a kind, creative, inclusive and sustainable future for all beings. UpcyclePop is located at the Atrium – A Creative Innovation Center for Sustainability.

THEATER CHAIR UPCYCLE WORKSHOP

THEATER CHAIR UPCYCLE WORKSHOP

Upcycle Workshop is back by popular demand! Flip our theater seats into beautiful & original chairs for your home!

Saturday, November 10th, 2018
Times: 10 a.m. – End time varies (with the option to schedule a second day to finish the project)
Location: at UPcyclePOP’s Art Lab 7300 Folsom Blvd. Sacramento 95826
Fee: $180/ person

Advanced registration required. This class is limited to 10 participants.

A long-lasting trend in the DIY community is furniture flipping and restoration– and it’s easy to see why! Not only is the life of the piece of furniture extended, but flippers and DIY-ers also get to infuse their own creativity on the project with new paint and fun fabric!

In this upcycle workshop, you’ll gain hands-on experience by updating a chair – specifically, a vintage theater chair straight out of the 24th Street Theater– under the guidance of professional upcycling artist Maureen Hefti. Proper prep and painting techniques will be covered, as well as re-upholstering skills for a fresh look. See us on Studio40 Live talking about this workshop!

WHAT YOU GET:
The price of the upcycle workshop includes:

***the vintage theater chair (a true piece of local history as these chairs were in the Memorial Auditorium before being moved to Sierra 2 Center)
***hands-on instruction & assistance from professional artists
the tools needed to flip the theater chair into a one-of-a-kind work of art.
***a beautiful wood slab that we will affix your chair to so it is free-standing, secure & portable. (Chairs were originally bolted to the floors of the theater)
***light lunch and snacks provided.

By the end of class, you’ll take home a unique piece of furniture, perfect for your home, and the furniture restoration knowledge for future projects!

WHAT YOU BRING:

We ask that you buy and bring your own paint and fabric so that you can make your chair suit your needs and match your home’s style!

Here’s what you need:

***One quart of chalk paint – ACE hardware carries them with many colors to choose from.
***Fabric – 30 inches in length (most fabric is 54-56” wide) so it should be 30” by 54/56”

About the Artists
Maureen Hefti is a maker going way back. She learned to sew at age 7 and by 6th grade was making most of her clothes. She pulled her first mid-century chair out of a dumpster at age 13, and with the help her mom, a professional upholsterer, she recovered it. Maureen’s sewing interests include quilting, home decor, clothing, and light upholstery work. She attended the University of Utah School of Fine Art and currently works as a metalsmith fabricating fine jewelry at her studio in Sacramento.
